The first urban space regenerated by the ToNite project is now opening to citizens: Viale Ottavio Mario Mai has a brand new urban guise.
Located in a strategic position, Viale Mai runs along the Luigi Einaudi University Campus, connecting it to the Edisu university residence, and links the pedestrian and cycle path F. Mellano crossing the Dora river with Corso Farini, allowing a connection toward the Vanchiglia district and the city center.
Thanks to ToNite strategy, Viale Ottavio Mai is a new urban space, designed to be a pleasant and safe place to frequent, especially in the evening and nighttime hours. It’s a open, inclusive and multifunctional space, with multiple identities: it’s an “outdoor campus” where people can study and discuss, it’s an accessible, pedestrian and cycle path to get to Lungo Dora, as well as a sort of “square” where people can stay and meet, organize public initiatives, play or have a rest.

The inauguration of the new Viale Ottavio Mai will take place on Thursday 6th October, starting at 5.30 pm.
The city institutions will inaugurate the space: Stefano Lo Russo, Mayor of the City of Turin, Stefano Geuna, Rector of the University of Turin and Luca Deri, President of Circoscrizione 7. Also Chiara Foglietta, Councilor for Innovation and Carlotta Salerno, Councilor for Urban Regeneration wull take part to the inauguration, as well as Giulia Carluccio, Vice Rector of the University of Turin and Alessandro Sciretti, President of EDISU.
To remember and honor the figure of Ottavio Mario Mai, film director and activist for gay rights, there will be Vladimir Luxuria and Giovanni Minerba, co-founder of the Gay Film Festival together with Ottavio Mai.
A statue dedicated to Ottavio Mario Mai will be unveiled on this occasion.
After the cut of the ribbon, the new avenue will be open to citizens.
The evening program continues with some cultural initiatives, organized in collaboration with local ToNite projects active in this area of Lungo Dora.
On the social table in the center of the avenue, a toast to the new avenue is proposed, with the reusable glasses of Manage Your Night project, showing information on behaviors for the prevention and management of damage. The musical accompaniment of a dj-set will be given by the Indigeno project. The story of Ottavio Mario Mai will be available on the Tellingstones app, always updated to learn stories and curiosities about the districts along the Dora and get information on the activities of the ToNite projects. Il Salotto di Miranda organizes Fuoco Seduto, a moment of participation, inspiration and collective artistic creation. A show of street artists and juggling is organized by the Per.Notte project, which will present the night activities promoting awareness and assistance to prevent and reduce risks and impact from the use of alcohol and substances. Finally, the University of Turin will launch a cycle of conferences about the Luigi Einaudi Campus, after its 10 years of existence, and the transformations around its neighborhood.
