The Dora river identifies the neighborhoods overlooking its banks. The urban context is residential and commercial and the presence of a cycle path accompanies the river sides in all its length, representing an pathway to move, walk and spend sparetime. At present, on the river banks and along the cycle-pedestrian paths there are elements of urban delimitation (wooden and iron fences, railings, walls and poles …).
As part of the urban regeneration actions envisaged by the ToNite project, aiming at promoting liveability and improving the safety of urban spaces, the Municipality of Turin has published a European tender to contract out the construction of a unitary multifunctional urban furniture element, characterizing the axis of the Dora river in the stretch between Corso Principe Oddone and the Luigi Einaudi Campus, on both banks.
The urban section object of the proposed intervention has 9 bridges, 3 of which are pedestrian (one currently closed) and runs for a length of approximately 2.5 km for each bank. The area requires an intervention to enhance the urban space and lighting that generates feelings of safety and pleasure even at night, through a “sign” that identifies the path and at the bridges through integrated luminous points with the aim of enhancing the intersections.

The architectural element configures itself as a urban sign that connects the paths between public spaces, and shapes in different meanings and functions, along the way:
- the improvement of protection barriers along the river,
- the invitation to observe and discover significant city views,
- different playing or sports equipments,
- a signage structure (accessible and inclusive, with particular attention to blind and visually impaired people),
- a shading function,
- bike racks, seats, integrated baskets and planters,
- other unconventional possibilities for using public space,
- lighting points.
The concept could contain a “theme”, chosen by the proponent that contains references to the river Dora and the city.
The deadline for the presentation of technical-economic offers is on 08/11/2022, 9:30 am.
