Turin is leading the partnership composed by Piemonte Innova Foundation, Engineering Ingegneria Informatica, Experientia, SocialFare, European Forum For Urban Security (Efus), Espereal Technologies and ANCI.
Fondazione Piemonte Innova
Piemonte Innova (ex-Torino Wireless) is a public-private Foundation that has been working for over 15 years on innovation and support to the growth of companies. The Foundation collaborates with urban authorities and institutions to attract funds and to create smart city projects.
It was founded in 2002 to contribute to the growth of the first Italian hi-tech district and it has developed extensive experience in the management of collaborative networks and in the development of services to support the innovation system. The Foundation has been managing the Innovation ICT Hub since 2009 and coordinates since 2012 the Smart Communities Cluster, which is a national network of local, industrial and research actors working together on the development of the best solutions for smarter and safer communities.
In the framework of ToNite, the Foundation will lead the monitoring activities of the pilot actions funded by the project, the impact evaluation on the city and on local community, as well as the transferability of the approach adopted by ToNite to other cities at national and European level.
Engineering Ingegneria Informatica
The Engineering Group is one of the main actors in the digital transformation of companies and public and private organizations, with an innovative offer to the main market segments.
It plays a leading role in research, by coordinating national and international projects thanks to its team of 450 researchers and data scientists and a network of academic partners around Europe. Operating in the outsourcing services design and development and in the IT consulting in more than 50 locations in Italy, the Engineering Group has a research and innovation department, the Open Public Innovation Lab, which is focused on innovation services in the Public Administration system.
In the framework of ToNite, the Engineering Group will be involved in the analysis of all the technology infrastructure to enhance the perception of safety in urban areas, providing its expertise on smart cities’ software solutions.
Experientia
Experientia is an international planning and research agency focused on the user experience, service design and behavioral modeling. This company uses qualitative and quantitative research methods in order to develop an in-depth study about people operating in their own cultural context. By adopting human-centered methodologies, it develops innovative solutions to align products and services to behaviors, actions and aspirations of the people, in order to encourage collaboration and growth of skills.
In the framework of ToNite, Experientia will take care of the research activity about the perception of safety areas targeted by the project, defining the way in which residents deal with public spaces and highlighting the enabling role of technologies. Furthermore, it will contribute to the process of design and implementation of new services launched at local level, through activities as masterplans and service blueprint.
SocialFare
SocialFare is the first center for social innovation in Italy. Created in Turin in 2013, it supports innovative ideas and solutions aimed at responding to the contemporary emerging challenges with an innovative approach, to generate new economy with a higher social impact. It is a business incubator certified by the Italian Ministry for Economic Development, offering acceleration and advisory programs to design, prototype and validate products and services.
In the framework of ToNite, SocialFare will focus on local community engagement, on supporting the project teams selected by the public call for the creation of new night-time services and the impact assessment of the project.
European Forum for Urban security (EFUS)
Efus is the only European network working on urban security. Founded in 1987, it brings together around 250 local and regional authorities from 16 European countries. In the last few years, Efus has developed, in collaboration with a European network of experts from universities and private institutions, a set of methods and tools to support local and regional authorities to implement a strategic approach to urban security.
In the framework of ToNite, Efus will promote innovative approaches and knowledge generated by the project at the occasion of national and European meetings, creating a connection with the European Urban Agenda partnership on security in public spaces, and will develop transferability guidelines of ToNite actions for other local and European contexts.
Espereal Technologies
Espereal Technologies is an innovative start-up based in Turin and Cagliari developing technologies and services on urban tourism and smart cities. It was involved in several European and national projects about safety and urban storytelling. Espereal combines a storytelling approach to technological advanced solutions, in order to create emotions and transform places into experiences for the users.
In the framework of ToNite, Espereal Technologies will provide technical and narrative tools to be applied in the project activities related to social sensing and storytelling.
ANCI
ANCI is the national association of the Italian municipalities whose purpose is to represent local authorities at the institutional level and to help local governments in developing urban innovation strategies. The association promotes studies and researches about the most important themes for the Italian local authorities. ANCI has developed considerable experience on urban innovation programs at national and European scale and is National URBACT Point for Italy since 2012. In partnership with Turin, it has been working on the UIA project Co-City, coordinating the communication and dissemination activities.
In the framework of ToNite, ANCI will coordinate all the communication activities, promoting ToNite’s solutions and policies at national and European level.
